This is one concept is close to my heart, a system beyond positive thinking and a system that is founded on the truth of the Gospel. This system is not about setting Smart goal or smarter goal, or all the acronym out there in the world, and I’m not trying to downplay all those systems because they provide a systematic approach to goal setting. Many times during my talk session, I usually start with the Gospel system of goal setting, depending on the target audience.
The word inheritance is used two hundred and ten times in the bible. This is significant because the G&G system of goal setting is souly based on your inheritance in Christ, or also known as our in Christ realities. A few scriptures that come to minds are;
“And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.” – Galatians 4:6-7 NLT
The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him – Ephesians 1:14 NLT
“For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.”- Romans 8:16-17 NLT
Okay now, let view all the promises of God as a Trust agreement. Firstly, a trust agreement is made up three parties, the Settlor (The creator of the trust), the Trustee (The person who hold the Trust) and the beneficiary (The Person or group of person who benefit or are entitled to the trust agreement). Hence God is the settlor the creator of the trust, Christ is the trustee, the person who hold on to the trust created by the settlor, and we are the beneficiary, because we are entitled to the trust (Promise), upon fulfillment of a particular condition in the agreement. You might be wondering what the condition is? the condition in this scenario is the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, in essence the Gospel and the acceptance of the Gospel. Now meaning all the promises and possibilities of God are for us to enjoy and inherit.
Now the G&G system simply entails, that when setting a goal anchor it with a scripture of the promise. For example, you own a business, “The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand.”- Deuteronomy 28:12 NKJV.
For those in the academic field, my favorite lecturer always states this scripture at the end of her class, to help us with memory, recall, understanding, and remove fear from our mind. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”- II Timothy 1:7 NKJV and “we have the mind of Christ.”- I Corinthians 2:16 NKJV, Encouraging us towards academic excellence.
This is a system beyond positive thinking, because situation of life will come up. That how life in general is, life operate in season, just like how different fruit have seasons, (Mango for example, my favorite fruit). There is a particular season in which there is no mango and it look like the mango tree is barren, However, it is simply not the season for the tree to bear fruit. As its season approaches, the fruit begins to sprout.
That is the limitation with positive thinking when all situations look gray, its seem like things won’t work out, and it become harder to maintain that positive mindset and approach to life. While the G & G system simply provide if it is in the word, therefore it is my reality. Never stop living in reality of the word, being a realist in the words of God is the best thing you can do for your mind when life get hard. Remember to always be productive.
